Documenting the impact of the immigration ban on U.S. science

Dr. Al-Delaimy grew up in Iraq and is now the Division Chief of the Global Health Program at the University of California, San Diego. His research on the epidemiology of chronic diseases, air pollution, tobacco, and refugee mental health requires regular international travel. He recently cancelled a planned research trip to Ecuador. As a green card holder, he is worried that he may be banned from re-entering the country should he leave. "I'm not going to take these chances if people are using my country of origin or birth as a criteria, which is absolutely unacceptable," he told KPBS radio.
